Princess Alice Hospice provides in-patient, day patient and at-home palliative care across Surrey, south west London and Middlesex. Whitescape was chosen to refurbish and extend the communal areas of the hospice, including reception, café and dining room.
A place that says ‘we care’
Whitescape understood that these facilities are an important element of the care and support offered to patients and their loved ones. We proposed, beyond the initial brief, a striking new extension that would enable us to re-envisage the reception, seating and catering areas as a beautiful, flexible series of spaces that would be fully utilised and appreciated. The Trust felt that Whitescape’s proposal represented the best possible value for the funds raised by the hospice and its supporters.
A ‘live’ working environment
The major challenge of this project was that construction work was to take place in the heart of the hospice, which would continue to provide full services throughout. Whitescape’s seamless approach to design, preconstruction and construction meant that staff and volunteers could work unimpeded, while patients and visitors were protected from site works throughout the 30-week construction phase. Our experience in sensitive operational environments proved invaluable.
