The Endoscopy Suite at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester, provides facilities for patients who require planned, urgent or emergency endoscopy and interventional radiological procedures. Whitescape reconfigured the unit to comply with Joint Advisory Group accreditation, a ‘badge’ of quality for patients and commissioners.

An environment of privacy and respect

Endoscopy procedures are usually performed on an outpatient basis. Patients, carers and visitors should expect the best possible care and experience in what can be a difficult and stressful 60 minutes or so. This project was designed to increase patient privacy from changing room to procedure room. It involved extensive alteration to doors, partitions, flooring and ceilings, services and fittings, and a complete programme of refurbishment and redecoration.

Meticulous planning and scheduling

The Suite remained in use through the construction work, and our meticulous pre-construction planning took account of all operational requirements. The project was conducted in four phases, allowing us to contain works within each area while maintaining access at all times. We collaborated continuously with all stakeholders to ensure that any concerns were ironed out and managed the project to its successful conclusion with the minimum of disruption to staff and patients.
