Shannon Court, an Edwardian country home in Hindhead, Surrey, run by the Royal Masonic Benevolent Society, provides residential and specialist temporary care for up to 53 residents aged 70+, including those with dementia. As part of the home’s commitment to quality and care, Whitescape carried out upgrades to two kitchens and the bathroom facilities.

A complete kitchen refit

Shannon Court takes pride in offering residents fresh homemade food, a varied menu and a balanced diet, and the ageing kitchens needed a complete upgrade to meet the required hygiene standards. We removed all the catering equipment, appliances, cupboards and other fittings, completely stripped out wall and floor coverings, replaced them with new materials and redecorated. All the equipment, including the failing extraction system, was professionally cleaned, repaired, checked and reinstalled.

Temporary kitchen solution

To maintain the meals service during these works, we proposed a packaged temporary kitchen designed to accommodate two cooks producing around 50 covers per meal, rather than a temporary shelter in one of the courtyards. This increased the overall cost of the project but ensured good working conditions for the chefs, allowing residents to continue enjoying their usual excellent meals.
