Cherrywood Nursery in Farnborough caters for children from birth to five years. Whitescape’s project to extend and refurbish the building earned us an ‘excellent’ score from Hampshire County Council on all six of our key service performance criteria. Our definition of ‘excellent’ is exceeding expectations.

Meeting the demand for places

The new extension was vital for Cherrywood to meet increased demand for nursery places in the local area. It was built to create more teaching space and also included repositioning and fully refurbishing an existing canopy with deck and external works. Whitescape deployed a full range of skills – civil engineering, construction and services engineering – to complete the project as quickly as possible.

A ‘live’ working environment

Nursery and pre-school settings are particularly sensitive to on-site building operations. Our construction programme was tailored to integrate with the school’s needs and limit the children’s exposure to the works at every stage. We used only our own operatives for the majority of the building work, and our foreman collaborated closely with teaching and other staff to integrate ourselves into the daily school life, making sure that no disruptive activities took place during school hours.
